Traffic

  • National Road safety Conference (NL) 2010: presentation and workshop on the presentation of HERMES (from instruction to Coaching) in the Netherlands

  • Contributions about 'Young people in traffic to governmental departments and traffic organisations (in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Austria and Australia) especially regarding high-risk behaviour, aggression, alcohol, ethics, endurable enforcement and 'Learning ín traffic'

  • Training driving instructors (in dealing with boys studying for  the moped licence; educational measures regarding traffic, European pilot 2nd phase driving licence).

  • Development of low key (video-)programmes with teacher manuals regarding risk taking behaviour of young men (‘through their eyes’ and ‘over their shoulder’) on moped and in cars.

  • Integral and focussed policy consultation on youth and traffic to the Dutch ministry of transport.

Education and upbringing

  • Working Conference on 'Boys in and around the school' in coperation with APS (a National Dutch Centre for expertise on education) november 2009

  • Presentation European network 'Men in childcare' on World Forum on Early Child Care & Education, June Belfast 2009

  • Workshop 'Men and Boys, use them or loose them' (working title) on World Forum on Early Care & Education: Men in Early Childhood Education May 20-23 2008 Honolulu (Hawaii, USA)

  • Workshops for childcare services (2004-2008)

  • Programmes about Youth Care in Social and Pedagogical Education (1975-2005) Amsterdam University of Professional Education (Hogeschool van Amsterdam)

  • Lectures, workshops and training teachers to deal with boys’ behaviour in and around school (1989-2008)

  • Advising the Ministry of Education and Social Work with reference to the extended school ('Brede School') and sexual differences.

Youth care 

  • Awareness of and working with sexual differences in youth care (Advising, lecturing and training professionals in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Germany, Portugal and Austria).

  • Supporting programme development in intensive outreaching help; direct environmental approach and alternatives for criminal law approach, intake in youth care.

  • Tuning training and professional education in youth care to the professional field.

Health

  • Contributions to 3 WHO conferences (Europe) about issues regarding young people and health.

  • Training of general practitioners (boys and men in the surgery, how to deal with sexual abuse and harassment in the surgery).

  • Workshop for nurses and therapists in Psychiatry.

  • Offering advice in campaigns in Holland and Austria about drugs, aggression and night life.

  • Contributions, lectures, advice regarding AIDS prevention.

Self-defence, dealing with aggression

  • Consultant for ‘Rock and Water’, a psycho-physical training for boys (book and programme by Freerk Ykema (publications). See: www.rockandwaterprogram.com (from 2002)

  • Research into the basis and implementation of Rock and Water in assignment to the Dutch Ministry for Education, Culture and Science (OC&W) and the Netherlands Care Research Organisation (Zorg Onderzoek Nederland) (2002)

  • Contributions to governmental and other campaigns about the prevention of sexual violence and other forms of aggression in various situations (relationships, domestic violence, school, street, night life).

  • Co-developer of ‘Action and Reaction’, a psycho-physical educational programme for boys about self-defence and sexual abuse of and by boys. (1993-1996)

Miscellaneous

  • Initiator of the Dutch platform ‘Boys in Balance’ (2000)

  • Frequent participation in TV and radio programmes, magazine and newspaper articles. (1988-2008)

  • All kinds of advice on Youth policy

  • Participation in the brainstorming group for the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment about images of manhood in policy.

  • Emancipation policy, education, psychiatry and police/law.

  • Police (training police in dealing with male/female images; treatment of offenders in traffic, advice and training in dealing with juvenile delinquents).
